10,000 Steps Goal

More about 10,000 Steps from this Fitness Blog.

Yesterday I logged 7897 steps. This was a big step up. My memory function on my pedometer gives me:

  1. 7897
  2. 3129
  3. 2646
  4. 1279 (which was half a day since it was the day the pedometer showed up in the mail)
I think it's safe to say that my bottom-line rate is about 3,000 steps a day. So to do this 2000 steps a day increase, I ought to step up to an average of 5000 steps a day. Then the idea is to increase by 500 step increments. I do not know whether this is daily increases or weekly, but I'm going for weekly and step up by 1,000s.

So my goal is as follows:

Week #1: 5,000 daily steps on average (35,000 total)
Week #2: 6,000 daily steps on average (42,000 total)
Week #3: 7,000 daily steps on average (49,000 total)
Week #4: 8,000 daily steps on average (56,000 total)
Week #5: Maintain/catch up
Week #6: 9,000 daily steps on average (63,000 total)
Week #7: 10,000 daily steps on average (70,000 total)

The nice thing about pedometers, as the blog I linked to above points out, is that doing the laundry counts, and playing with your kids, and moving around in the kitchen. That works nicely for me at this season in my life.
